Since I moved to the coast, I’ve been collecting triangle-shaped rocks. Δ is the symbol for change and I have some ideas for a photography project. The past few days I’ve played around with it. It’s trickier than I thought to get a good photo of rocks on the beach.

@talvinrue It’s not an official thing, just some people who live near the Pacific Ocean and like watching and sharing wave videos from their locations. Everyone is welcome to appreciate the waves. 🌊 ☺️

For the Pacific Wave Appreciation Society. 10 ft. swells at high tide. Young California gull for bird interest. I did get splashed by a little speedy wave, despite wearing the big boots.

@JohnBrady I'm finally reading Cal Newport's Digital Minimalism, and just came across the answer to the very question. The attention-capturing tricks are built into the mobile apps, which has led to mobile advertising being these companies' greatest revenue source. Surprise! (Not really...😒)

I had trouble sleeping, so decided to get up early and take a walk on the beach. I thought I would be the only one there. I was wrong. (First time spotting elk on the beach!)

@JohnBrady Going a week without a cloudy rainy day feels weird to me now, after 30 years in Oregon. I like sunny days, but I tend to stay indoors or at least in the shade. Sun gives me headaches.

I may have grown up in sunny Florida near the Atlantic Ocean, but I strongly prefer a cloudy day at the beach. (Looking northward at a half-obscured Neahkahnie Mountain at noon.)

@aeryn Oops, I should have clarified I would like to find a printing service, as opposed to buying a printer. But now you’ve got the wheels turning… wait, no no no, I just moved into a little cottage and trying to get rid of things, not acquire them.

A starfish at low tide. I was tempted to pick it up and toss it back in the water, but the tide was on its way back in and I thought it had a good chance of being swept back into the waves naturally. And two minutes later, that’s exactly what happened.

Decided to go up to Oswald West State Park to get an aerial view of today’s big waves. Bonus: a bird cameo. I think it’s a turkey vulture, based on the fact I saw one earlier today. But I have seen bald eagles here too. 🌊🦅

@cliffordbeshers @Miraz Thank you, Micro Bird community. That is it! The Merlin app has this bird, marked “rare,” in the database but doesn’t it offer as a possibility when using the step-by-step identification tool. They are adorable, and run around like little sandpipers. In the wave video, they fly away as soon as the little wave hits them. The big gulls usually stay put.

@jean

I can’t resist posting another video, which is more about these cute birds. I’m not having luck identifying them, but they seem to be sandpipers. They are white with gray markings, and some have black heads.

Sunset seascape for the Pacific Wave Appreciation Society.

I might have something more exciting tomorrow, according to this National Weather Service Alert:

Abnormally high waves and surf expected to due to a late season west 10 to 14 ft swell, which could lead to hazardous beach conditions, including sneaker waves.

In the process of clearing out my storage in Portland, I found 28 Apple stickers. I told my 10-year-old nephew that he could have some, but maybe set aside a couple for the collector’s market.
