@anniegreens @Miraz I need something less dark in my mystery watching. I started the newest season of Unforgotten. I tried to watch the new Happy Valley. Both so well-done but dark dark dark. I still haven’t watched all of Brokenwood or My Life is Murder. Thanks for the reminder that crime doesn’t need to be so depressing. 😏

@Archimage The latest available for the device, 15.8.2. The Erase All Content and Settings was hanging forever. I just checked and it finally finished.

At least now it’s set to trade it in. I think it would be a gift of frustration for a kid—and the parents. 🫤

Is anyone still using the iPad mini 4 successfully? I bought it in 2015. Just trying to wipe and reset is maddening. I had planned to gift it to a 7 year old friend, but I think it might be close to unusable and too slow for anyone’s patience. The kid will hate me. Apple will give $70 credit for it. 🤔

@JohnBrady I think the insipid 1995 Mr. Collins is the best, ie the worst. After watching Succession, I came to admire Matthew MacFadyen for the fact he could play the sniveling Tom so well and still be a hot Mr Darcy. But Colin Firth above all others and always.

@mandaris I have watched this a million times. Whenever it pops up on suggested videos anywhere, I dip in and get sucked into watching all the episodes again. Whenever I see one of the actors in another show, even today, I think “Oh, there’s Mrs. Bennet, there’s Wickham, there’s that super annoying Lydia, there’s that mean Miss Bingley…”

I avoided the Keira Knightley version forever. But it is also good. Just not as iconic to me. Death Comes To Pemberley, a sequel penned by the great P.D. James, was made into a good mini series.

For the Pacific Wave Appreciation Society. Very low tide, calm sunny beach in the early morning. The big waves are out about 1000 yards, the baby waves meet the sandbar.

A couple photos too. It’s misty. View of Starfish Rock from the west and up close on the east side; a seagull glides.

Misty view facing the shore of a beach at low tide, large rock. Seagull in the mist. Rock covered with purple and orange starfish, waves in background.

10 years ago I took my niece and nephews for pizza at Marzano’s in Manzanita, about 20 minutes north of Twin Rocks where we would spend a week every summer.

I was intrigued by this little town, and now I live here. My nephew is here for a visit, so of course we get Marzano’s pizza. 🍕 🥰

I’ve been paying more attention to sand levels and how they change dramatically. Two photos of the same rock at super low tide, one from this week, the other about a month ago.

I don’t know if I will ever comprehend the massive physical forces at work under my feet on my daily walk.

@cleverdevil My brother and I usually watch together. He texted “I’m scared” when I reminded him a new season is out. I can’t believe I watch (and love) that show. It’s way beyond my usual tolerance for disturbing. But so apt and funny too. 😬

It’s been awhile since I shared a video for the Pacific Wave Appreciation Society. We’ve been having some low low tides this past week (-2 foot). This spot would usually be way underwater, as you can see from the accompanying location screenshot.

Since I moved to the coast, I’ve been collecting triangle-shaped rocks. Δ is the symbol for change and I have some ideas for a photography project. The past few days I’ve played around with it. It’s trickier than I thought to get a good photo of rocks on the beach.

I had trouble sleeping, so decided to get up early and take a walk on the beach. I thought I would be the only one there. I was wrong. (First time spotting elk on the beach!)

A starfish at low tide. I was tempted to pick it up and toss it back in the water, but the tide was on its way back in and I thought it had a good chance of being swept back into the waves naturally. And two minutes later, that’s exactly what happened.

Decided to go up to Oswald West State Park to get an aerial view of today’s big waves. Bonus: a bird cameo. I think it’s a turkey vulture, based on the fact I saw one earlier today. But I have seen bald eagles here too. 🌊🦅

I can’t resist posting another video, which is more about these cute birds. I’m not having luck identifying them, but they seem to be sandpipers. They are white with gray markings, and some have black heads.

Sunset seascape for the Pacific Wave Appreciation Society.

I might have something more exciting tomorrow, according to this National Weather Service Alert:

Abnormally high waves and surf expected to due to a late season west 10 to 14 ft swell, which could lead to hazardous beach conditions, including sneaker waves.
