This is one of the elevated walkways and bear gates in Katmai National Park that help keep humans out of the way of grizzlies.

@robertbreen I was going to post a whole bunch, along with the humorous (now, at least, definitely not in the moment) story about being run off the trail by two fighting grizzlies

Checking out a new brewery—Pinnacle Brewing up near the Scottsdale airpark—while getting some work done. Nice location and vibes, beer is meh, funny that the weekend bartender here is a regular at my local brewery Wren Südhalle in Ahwatukee. 😂🍻 #CraftBeer #ChooseAZBrews

Five years ago today, we were able to visit Brooks Falls. We were very early in the season, but had optimized our timing around getting to Aniakchak Crater, knowing that we’d return to Brooks Falls in the future. But fewer bears means fewer tourists—so we often had the viewing platform to ourselves!

@TravelEssayist Yup. My mom was just in a car accident and transported to the ER (sounds like she's ok) and because we have an airtag hidden in her car, I can figure out where it's currently being towed to.

I updated my /now page so that it displays the latest /now update from a new “now updates” post category. That makes it easier to archive old updates on my /then page, and rss subscribers will now get served the updates too. I also added in my omg.lol status to the page, which I update frequently.

I just unlocked a new hell: being blocked in by a driverless waymo that wouldn’t move until its customer—very belatedly—finally got in the car. I tried to inch pass it, but it started honking annoyingly.

While it’s since been relegated to second largest living organism, and understood to be closer to 16,000 years ago, this video will still blow your mind. (read more)

@numericcitizen Have you tried travel journaling instead of blogging or social media during a trip? I think it leads to much different outcomes (see rscottjon.es/Journalin... and rscottjon.es/Blogging+...), and it provides a great resource from which you can later blog or post about the trip.

For gear, I bring the items that will best capture the memories from the trip. So for camera gear, sometimes that's less because I'm not a professional and don't want to stress about capturing pro-level images, but my MB Air over my iPad because I enjoy writing on it more. YMMV, of course. Also, have fun! We may end in Croatia on a trip next spring.

@jedda This was enough of a problem for my wife and I that we made a radical change a few years ago and cut back my employment so that we could free up time during the work week to get "life admin" stuff done, os that we'd have more nights and weekends free for the fun stuff in life.

@barrysampson Fun stuff!

And so random. I mean, he has a hand drawn doodle of called testicle attack that literally just links to a random news article from 2005 about a woman who committed, well, a testicle attack.

I've had it on my list to recreate one of the hand drawn pages on my own site since running cross this last year sometime (sans testicles).
