@rickcogley That's pretty cool to be able to see and reference your own work diagrams. About that time I was working in a networking lab at the university and we were so excited about these cards we could shove into our laptops that enabled wireless networking 😄

@pratik IMHO, if you live in a capitalist society with that implicit contract, then it is being stolen, whether you as a creator view it as such or not. In some other kind of society it may not be the case. Creative Commons was created specifically to resolve and make this intention clear with an explicit contract, and preemptively grant additional permission on an overall basis, or a case by case basis.

@Miraz It's one of my favorite things on a beach to visualize these kinds of formations as huge (thereby making me a giant heh). That scale distortion definitely comes through in this composition. Love it!

Avatar

Sam (Satyajit) Grover
@samgrover

@pratik Yes, and yes, regardless of expectation of money. It is the implicit contract in the society in which I live that no one else should be able to do that without my permission. If I was elsewhere, it may be different. The internet makes boundaries fuzzy but it also makes it trivial to ask for permission.

@holgerfrohloff When I first launched this feature I had invited feedback on translation options but received no response. So thank you for sharing that. I do think it would be neat so I will have to look into how to accomplish this. Asking the generator to also translate may be now available, but the other options would be to offer a separate translation feature integrated into the same view.

@pratik @odd @DaveyCraney Thanks folks! It appears to be doing a better job but this is so subjective, it is hard to tell. It is definitely not doing worse. I'll likely let this sit in beta for a few weeks because it seems that they are still ramping up deployment, and while Mimi users are a small group, the rest of the world is all jumping on the new model the same time. I've seen some timeouts/errors in my testing but a second try usually works.

A new beta of Mimi Uploader is out with a small but significant update. The alt text generation feature now uses the latest Open AI model (GPT-4o) announced yesterday.

If you’re not in the beta, you can opt-in.

I look forward to your feedback. Thank you!

Black and white diptych of a single bird perched on a wire against a cloudy sky; the composition is split into two sections showing the bird on different wires.

I noticed this bird from my kitchen window, took out my iPhone, zoomed in to 8x (digital) and took a few photos, and a few more when it flew over to another point. These two were picked from those, and even though they were monochromatic to begin, I converted to B&W as it was distracting.

Spent about an hour messing with this simple patch last night.

An array of electronic music equipment, including a Moog Mother-32 semi-modular analog synthesizer, a Moog Mavis synthesizer, and an Elektron Analog Rytm drum machine, connected by patch cables on a table.

I started wanting to make some beats using the Elektron but I ended up just having fun with drones using the Moogs.

I am new to beats, and those seem very hard in comparison. Good procrastination 😂
