@dynamitemoth A response to both replies...

You seem to think the rank and file DNC convention delegates have far more sway than the head of the Democratic Party (Biden) or, well, I do. You also seem to think it is easier that I do and that there is time to do everything you've outlined than I do.

The simple truth, written up multiple times in the past few weeks is that all of this is predicated by Joe Biden stepping aside before anything can happen and, to me, any discussion about it is only really a distraction/detriment unless/until that happens.

You and I will have to agree to disagree on all of this (A simple friendly disagreement I'll add. I appreciate a healthy debate and we both want the same things).

@dynamitemoth that all may be true, but this is also true and this is what I am saying.

There is nothing anyone can do about it, but Joe Biden. And if Biden decides not to do anything, it doesn’t matter because we have to vote for him anyway, because it may be our last chance to vote if he doesn’t win. And all we are doing by maniacally focusing on it is eradicating the very slim margin he had and distracting us from the goal of winning.

You do not see the other side doing that about their equally cognitively compromised and only three years younger candidate do you? The answer is no because the Republicans understand unlike the Democrats that winning is the only thing that matters right now.

@dynamitemoth 2 is the main message of the point and I agree with you. If Biden steps aside and is replaced with a Pet Rock, I'll happily vote for Pet Rock.

President Rock has a nice ring to it in fact.

1 is simply my way of wrapping in the point that Kamala is an inevitability if, and only if, we defeat Trump so... Eat the pie!

@pratik Here's the math I don't understand people not getting about the Kamala thing....

Want Kamala because you think Biden to old and losing it? Great! Since replacing Biden is not an option unless he decides to do it, your best choice is to vote for him and figure that he won't make it another four years and you'll get Kamala.

If Biden does make it four years, Kamala is basically shoe-in for 2028 which has been the case for every VP that has wanted it.

And, if Biden does step aside (unlikely) Kamala would be the natural replacement and he'd likely endorse that and only do so knowing that was the direction it'd go.

So, no matter what, it's Kamala anyway/eventually if you just do the right thing and eat the pie so you can survive long enough to get her.

@hjalm The pushback I got from others on another site was not as kind. “There was no other choice, we just wanted to protest” was basically the response.

Crazy thought: Maybe some of those that voted “uncommitted” in the Democratic primaries to “send a message“ that are advocating for Biden to step aside now, should have actually done the work and “committed“ to a candidate that they did want.

Did people really not know until recently?

Why is the pundit class so desperate to push Biden out of the race? | Rebecca Solnit | The Guardian

It’s a dogpile and a panic, and there is no one more unable to understand their own emotional life, biases and motives than people who are utterly convinced of their own ironclad rationality and objectivity, AKA most of these pundits.

During a discussion with a right-leaning friend on the Presidential Immunity ruling, I simply asked, “One citizen of this country now has more rights than any other. I don’t believe it is a democratic republic as long as such a condition exists. Is that OK with you?”

Gave them pause.

@JohnPhilpin Thanks for the additional insight.

No argument on the need for Democrats to get their house in order, or that the real fight we face right now only starts with defeating Donny Dictator but needs to continue to the right wing engineering the Republicans have done in the Judicial and State Government levels especially.

Just hopeful that France may be back on the list of places my family will consider escaping to if it all goes sideways.

Let the President violate the law, let him exploit the trappings of his office for personal gain, let him use his official power for evil ends. Because if he knew that he may one day face liability for breaking the law, he might not be as bold and fearless as we would like him to be. That is the majority’s message today. Even if these nightmare scenarios never play out, and I pray they never do, the damage has been done. The relationship between the President and the people he serves has shifted irrevocably. But, in many cases this is what healthy debate is about. So it is very much appreciated by me — especially having my beliefs challenged in ways that compel me to reconsider.
