@miguelmanalo Sorry, can you explain what a button pin maker is to a stupid person?

@jean I don't think that's particularly nnecessary though. I'm a blind user who couldn't care any less about pictures people post. In fact I kind of wish I could filter them all out. The Fediverse has done a good job of explaining why it's a good thing, but unless your charging me for something, I really don't need to know all that extranious information.

@cleverdevil May as well cancel it, then. I don't have one in the first place, so I don't have to put up with that! I thought about getting one for a documentary that came out about a case I was following. I decided not to because paying for that would be worthless.

@manton Dates are actually a good idea. Simply because I like to have a record of when I did something lol.

@manton I've wanted to bring back some of my older blogs, but didn't want to set up a server, and do this on WP! This will be good for me.

@manton I'm just discovering the notes feature! I've long needed a simple, accessible place to drop a bunch of lists that have been sitting in my documents for years! No service really offers that without todo list functions that I really don't need. The notes feature will give me that, thanks!!

@curiouskyle Unfortunately RSS tools are not screen reader accessible, and Google reader was. Miniflux is, it's what works the best for me. Most of them aren't anyway, and the ones that are are like Thunderbird, or windows-based.

Avatar

Hope
@ladyhope

@curiouskyle Yeah google reader was the best! I really haven't found anything to replace it besides Miniflux, which I'm not using right now because I just can't do my own terminals unfortunately.

Avatar

@ladyhope

@curiouskyle Oh that's good that you were able to recover the page! Google is always breaking the web! We need to figure out how to do all this stuff without SEO!

Avatar

@ladyhope

@mitchw Yay for lots of open tabs! I don't use tabs because I find they crash too much! I like having separate instances open lol. I have had a lot of windows open, and the system I just got last year hasn't had any issues, sometimes up to over 90.

@gregmoore I'm sure Google doesn't notice. Unless more people stopped doing so that is. There's definitely a difference between seo sites, and real blogs, that's for sure!

Avatar

Hope
@ladyhope

@gregmoore I don't actually care about the real recipe blogs. They're just trying their best. There's a link on a lot of them now where you can just jump directly to the recipe. If they want to infuse a bit of personal flare, I'm OK with that. They just shouldn't go on for like four or five paragraphs of it.

Avatar

Hope
@ladyhope

@gregmoore Of course Google will never do that, because it's Google, but I haven't used google search in at least seven years now.

Avatar

Hope
@ladyhope

@gregmoore Yeah this is definitely true! not only that but search engines should down rank these articles. Just because they're complying with all the SEO, who cares? They're just doing it to make money, well the person behind it is anyway.

@otaviocc I have some questions about that particular service. I'm always worried if I try to email, my primary will end up in the spam folder, because it isn't Gmail or outlook. If your using GSuite it will.

@amerpie Uh huh no not really. I enjoy reading about crypto, but can't stand Trump. I'm libertarian, so I suppose that's why.

@crossingthethreshold I meant purging unread items after 400 or so.

Avatar

@crossingthethreshold That's really cool, but until feedbin stops magically disappearing feed items, I won't use that service. Even though it's really good, unfortunately.

Avatar

Hope
@ladyhope

@curiouskyle I haven't actually used Google search in forever and a day wow, I had to actually remember what you were talking about. I do remember, and that's not very nice for the web, and all the sites that are archived in Google's caches. It's good for Google, of course.

Avatar

Hope
@ladyhope

@curiouskyle Google is stupid, and I say that from the point of view as an open web evangelist, not an SEO. I have done some of that before, but the amount of work they, Google, makes you go through is ridiculous, and they just expect everyone to put up with it. That's why even if I do get back into multiple blogging, I'm never, ever going to worry about pagerank, because it's counterproductive. I mean they love to kill off entire open web standards like RSs, or try to anyway. Then they just expect everyone to play along. Everyone does, which is why I hate Google.
