That’s it! The 2024 Tour Alberta for Cancer is a wrap. I was once again blown away by all the support I received, and then by the event itself. A few thoughts as this year’s tour is behind me and next year’s lies ahead!πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ b-ark.ca

In good news today, Deb and I both went to the gym where I did mainly stretches, along with some lat pulldowns and rowing on the machine.

This afternoon was gorgeous: sunny, still and warm so we both went for a bike ride round the village. πŸš΄πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸš΄πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Yesterday I noticed pain in my achilles tendon, so I decided to replace some running by cycling. I recorded using a triathlon app on my watch. Two things went wrong. I accidentally wiped the activity, but, worse, I underestimated the bike ride and the heat. It was too long and too fast. πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

Enjoying this β€œHomer Simpson Hedge” patch on my Gramm Tourpacking frame bag a lot. πŸ“· 🚲

Upper front triangle of a titanium road bike with a carbon fork and handlebar. Focus is on a velcro patch on a black frame bag showing the Homer Simpson disappearing into a hedge meme. In the background a table with coffee and cake is visible, slightly blurred.

Rigging up my old GT Zum to get back and forth to the local pond with fishing gear. Now eyeing a good gravel bike for everyday (trail) riding. Also considering a Bromton to keep in the truck for use on road trips. Too many choices out there! 🚲

Coach says if I want to cycle 50 miles in a day I must first cycle 50 miles.

So I’ve split it over 5 days.

Day 1/5 complete.

This will be my third year riding in the Enbridge Tour Alberta for Cancer and it occurs to me I’ve never really articulated (or even deeply thought about) why I keep coming back. And so, two months away from the big event, it seemed like the right time to put into words what the Tour has come to mean to me.πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ b-ark.ca

A week of no riding and travel coming up soon means my training routine is set to be seriously disrupted. So I finally just pulled the bike indoors and got on the trainer while I have the chance. And boy it was toughΓ’Β¦ Meanwhile I hit the $400 mark in donations! Still a long way to go but I know folks... b-ark.ca
