Finished reading: On Writing and Worldbuilding by Timothy Hickson 📚

Another educational handbook on writing fiction, let’s see if I finally manage to put the advice into action.

Finished reading: The Emperor and the Endless Palace by Justinian Huang 📚

Lovely (and extremely spicy) story reminding me a bit of Cloud Atlas!

Finished reading: What Moves The Dead by T. Kingfisher 📚

Uncanny retelling of Fall of the House of Usher invoking additional issues of gender identity! Terrifying short read!

Finished reading: The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe 📚

I can’t believe I put off reading this novel for such a long time - great story and characters!

Finished reading: The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins 📚

For a book I stumbled upon in the apartment we’re staying at after my eReader broke, this turned out to be a fascinating read!

Finished reading: The Age of Magical Overthinking by Amanda Montell 📚

An enlightening exploration of the mind and the biases that haunt it, guided by the author through relatable examples and personal narratives.

Finished reading: Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher 📚 I absolutely adored the story of Marra and her fellowship of misfits. Following their adventures felt like watching a group of close friends with all their unique irks and quirks. Looking forward to reading more by T. Kingfisher/Ursula Vernon! With six days left at the ocean and twelve days of holiday overall, a broken eReader couldn’t have happened at a worse time. I tried all the tutorials to get it running again - nothing worked. Staying in a tiny town without a bookstore in sight makes this even more painful. 😭

Finished reading: If Cats Disappeared From The World by Genki Kawamura 📚

Fun quick read!

@ArnoldHoogerwerf No it isn’t. While tidying up the plot after getting it, I saw one running next to me in my neighbor‘s garden. That was the reason why I got the hedgehog food in the first place. However, my parents not believing that it would actually attract one, at least got me proof that my ambition of turning the place into a wildlife-friendly garden is working out!

Finished reading: The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman 📚

Finally got around to read this and I can’t understand why I put it off for such a long time. Fantastic story full of magic, eldritch horrors and beautiful characters!

🌱 While I’m on holiday, my parents have been on a mission to find out what’s been eating the hedgehog food in my garden (they couldn’t believe it was a hedgehog). And guess what? 🦔

A fantastic collection of sci-fi and fantasy short stories. Especially loved On the Beach of Forgotten Things and Trickle Down Lobotomies.

Oh, to see without my eyes
The first time that you kissed me
Boundless by the time I cried
I built your walls around me

Finished reading: How Do You Live? by Genzaburo Yoshino 📚

„How will you live?“ - a great final question to end this thought-provoking book about humanness and individual experiences.

In other news: my application as a lecturer at a teacher training college has been accepted. Of course, imposter syndrome immediately kicked in before I even got a chance to reply.

But still, this is going to be a new chapter in my life. Do let’s see what it’s going to bring.

Arrived in Venice. Let the holidays commence. 🗺️

Finished reading: The Bullet Journal Method by Ryder Carroll 📚

Ryder Carroll put together a comprehensive yet minimalist enough journaling system which I am giving a try right now. Especially the idea of being able to use it as a reflection of past decisions and emotions makes this intriguing.

🌱 Found a great place for the apple tree I got gifted by my students last week for summer break. Let‘s hope it grows, prospers, and provides delicious fruit!

Finished reading: Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell 📚

Fun space opera.

Finished reading: Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa 📚

A comforting read reminding me of the Before the Coffee gets Cold series. Loved the insight in Japanese culture and the setting although the bookshop part ended rather early in the story.

Finished reading: The Giddy Death of the Gays & the Strange Demise of Straights by Redfern Jon Barrett 📚

Touching exploration of gender, identity and polyamory with a diverse and likable cast of characters! Will have to read Proud Pink Sky soon.
