I do not want an AI iPhone. Apple Intellgence sounds like a privacy nightmare. There’s no guarantee that they will do no evil with the data being sent to their services. OpenAI is a malicious company. More from Disconnect

🎵 Didn’t like Mengers when I first heard them (maybe I wasn’t in the mood at the time), but now I’m addicted to their album “Golly”:

@goblingumbo Critics say this is their landmark album, but I agree that Mezanine is the better one. Have you listened to the podcast One Good Song? Interesting breakdown of "Teardrop" and history: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas...

I read that the fediverse will save us from Big Tech. But for godsakes, how many tutorials do I have to read to understand it? What the hell? I am also wary of anything that the Instagram head honcho has embraced.

Great conversation on 🎙️Search Engine: Are news orgs ready for what is expected to be a web traffic catastrophe?

@manton I am not convinced this was coincidental. And I think that OpenAI planted the story in WaPo (as someone who works in PR and was a former journalist) as a first step to change the narrative because of the high legal risk. "Documents shared by OpenAI"? Not a coincidence. This is crisis communications at work.

@manton I'm moving the goal posts? LOL. Point taken, though. But it does seem odd that he would go asking her to use her voice when they already had a voice that sounded like her. Why?

Avatar

@cristian

@manton This new twist only shows that OpenAI was hiring voice actors back in May 2023. While the company may not have explicitly requested a voice that sounded like ScarJo, it does not say anything about whether Altman weighed in on the selection to ensure that the outcome was Her-like.

@manton I think the reason the ScarJo voice situation is so unsettling is that we already know that OpenAI hoovered vast amounts of artistic works on the open web without giving credit or remuneration. I think we are all right to be skeptical of the company at this point.

There are so many good lines in this Platformer story, but this one makes it clear how Google is on the verge of fully capturing the web through AI. Google’s broken link to the web

Over the past two and a half decades, Google extended itself into so many different parts of the web that it became synonymous with it. And now that LLMs promise to let users understand all that the web contains in real time, Google at last has what it needs to finish the job: replacing the web, in so many of the ways that matter, with itself.
