The post linked to below was in response to a post by @chrisaldrich. It explains how working with my notes resulted in a very different chapter to the one I had planned. I find this happens quite a lot—although this was a particularly good example.

@writingslowly I also bought the paperback… Somehow, it seemed more appropriate than the ebook. I’m pretty happy with how my Zettelkasten(ish) notes system is working for me, but having admired @bobdoto’s stuff on YouTube, I expect to pick up some new ideas. Unfortunately, I’ll be out of town for a week, with no time for reading, but expect a review soon.

@JenLucPiquant The first book I ever ‘read’, age 3 (by which, I mean memorised from my parents’ reading it to me every night—no other book would do—and then recited all the way through). I still have my copy.

@writingslowly I pretty much do the same as you suggest here, although I find it useful to have a small number of sub-categories of permanent note, as described in my post linked to below. The idea is that certain sub-categories of note are more complete than others, so being able to see which ones are less complete is a useful indicator of notes I might want to develop further. (A year and a half after writing the post, I haven’t felt the need to amend my ‘tagsonomy’, so it certainly seems to be working for me.)

@i_ngli A long-overdue popular book on Buffon… I look forward to reading it. Unfortunately, the article has been erroneously updated to say Darwin and Wallace 'co-developed' the theory of natural selection. They did not. They arrived at very similar theories independently.
