Writing an obituary can be excruciating, but itâs a tradition for a reason and can help you through grief. I wouldnât generate the whole thing, but I can imagine guiding tools that asked questions to elicit more memories. But that would be harder to design and implement, sooo we get this instead.

If you can pull this off, thatâs great, but if youâre nervous, I really think itâs ok to read from a script. You donât have to perform memorization to give a good talk. I read my job market talks (not the norm in my field) and focused my energy on more important things during a very stressful time.... bsky.app
I really dislike that past reviews are visible to new reviewers in ARR. We received some pretty useless and toxic reviews for a recent submission, and I don't think our paper should be forever tied to those comments. It makes figuring out whether to resubmit and what changes to make more difficult.

If a journalist published an article presenting a "data science" analysis that mirrored an analysis in a paper you had previously published + the journalist had reached out to you and discussed your paper weeks in advance + then they didn't cite your paper... Would you care? Is this worth fighting?

I started using Arc as my web browser about a month ago, and I LOVE IT.
Arc is based on Chromium (a privacy compromise but you get to keep the same extensions you use on Chrome), and it is so organized and pretty and has really changed the way I browse the web.

Unfortunately, all faculty in the US are now mandatory reporters ð I really appreciate this resource from @nbedera.bsky.social with a statement you can put in your syllabus (and maybe also on your website) warning students about your mandatory reporter status.
