It’s such a bummer that Threads posts shared from Instagram don’t federate. I assumed they would now that API posts do.

The 2014 share page was peak Instagram.
Change my mind.

Trying to find novel ways to break a feature that I helped shape is oddly satisfying.

Is it weird to love engineering bug bashes as a designer?

Met up with the @douxmeetup co-organizer crew for a planning session happy hour tonight. Grateful for this group and for the community we love bringing together.

I don’t get out as often as I used to, but I still love a good #Onewheel trail ride. Spent an hour at Markham Woods this morning tracing squiggly lines through the trees and looking for gnomes.

Map of my ride from AllTrailsA palmetto tree with a garden gnome and a weathered sign that says, “don’t feed the gnomes.”

Same here. Around the middle of this week I went from hundreds of spammy follows per day to just a couple.

Here’s a couple of behind-the-scenes @raybanmeta clips from last night’s @douxmeetup. Professor Murray gave a great talk on AI user experience design.

I love my Shokz OpenRun for biking and running. I rarely use headphones for work Zooms but they've worked great for regular phone calls, so I say Yay.

💯 For you is full of stale posts and following is a firehose. This is why I'm looking forward to custom feeds.

Sprout Social. My team and I work on the publishing tools there.

It's a double Fediverse Threads launch all the way.
Whoa, that's so intense.

Happy API posts now share to the fediverse day to all who celebrate.

Posted via API.

That's a semi-charmed kinda gift.

I’ve seen many interesting things on Colonial in Downtown Orlando but on our way back from the meetup last night, @mattplavoie and I spotted… a-Luigi!

A 6 foot tall Luigi figure with a raised hand laying in the bed of a pickup driving down Colonial Drive.

One of my eng colleagues shared this post with me as we were discussing ways to reduce the prominence of an existing feature.
https://www.gkogan.co/removing-stuff/
It's great advice, even though there's 0 chance we'll shave off said feature.

Waiting for custom feeds access.

I found the count on the list of blocked profiles in the “Who can see your content” section of settings.

Same. Already up to 926 blocked accounts.

Anyone else seeing a constant barrage of spammy @instagram follows? My IG has less than 500 followers but I’ve blocked over 900 follow bot accounts, the majority of which are from the 8 days since I replied to @superginormous’ post about the current wave.

Got a tour of the meeting space this week.
Excited to have a new downtown venue option for @douxmeetup!

We tried sheets for a while but switched to a shared Google Calendar a few years ago and it's still working great for us. It's searchable, exportable, viewable on any device, and having the full recipe in each event description makes shopping and meal prep a lot easier. Details about our process at the top of this post:
https://jasongraphix.com/journal/family-favorite-weeknight-dinners/

We added ½ cup of roughly chopped dried apricots before marinating and used 4 large chicken breasts instead of thighs, cut into thirds and tenderized with a jaccard.

Ermahgerd! We tried this Chicken Marbella recipe from @bowlofdelicious tonight and will definitely be making it again.

Kept my profile public and the requests finally slowed down today. Hope it’s not just because it’s the weekend. Currently at 783 blocked accounts. I’m sure the majority of those are from the last few days.

Even when it does error out, it looks like the block still goes through. The fastest path for me is clearing them out from the notifications screen. Swipe, ..., block, block (repeat)

It’s frustrating, so I’m just going to call it a DDoS attack.

Same here. 😭 I have a few other Instagram profiles I manage and none of those are getting hammered like this.

Screenshot from Instagram showing a wall of spam follows all within the last hour.

Nevermind. Just blocked 2 more.

It was about the same for me today. Thought about setting my account to private but a lot of the spam follows had private accounts so I don’t know if that would even help. Haven’t seen any since flipping that account suggestions toggle. 🤞

Just found that setting and did the same. It was bad again today. Went through and blocked or removed any existing follows that looked spammy but they just keep rolling in.

I know how crazy that can be at times and how good it feels to finally have the space back. Hope you get there soon.

Wow! These updates (almost) make me want to take on another major reno project. When we lived in Decatur, my wife and I bought a house that was about to be torn down. Our plan was to renovate it and then add on. We found out after closing that we were going to have a baby 😯 and flipped that plan. We built a 3-story addition and then renovated the old side, all while living in the house with a newborn. Here's how it turned out:

Love it. I've done this a couple of times too. I found it was pretty easy to format the Threads export into a csv that can be imported from Mastodon settings. That will also tell you how many succeeded.
https://jasongraphix.com/journal/following-threads-on-mastodon/

Ugh. It’s my turn now. I got over 50 of these today alone already.

I was so excited to see this banner! One more critical step toward full ActivityPub integration.

Still don’t have this update but hooray for #RealHashtags 🎉

No 🤏 pinching necessary to view image carousels stitched together on Ivory by Tapbots.

It’s fun seeing how various Mastodon clients present Fediverse Threads content.

One last weekend hurrah before school starts at @hammockbeach 🌴

Weird. No, but I also haven’t posted in a few weeks. Wonder if it was the Gary Vee mention yesterday that triggered it.

💯 I love sneaking little surprises into sprints. Our PMs are always in on it when we do.

Scheduling user interviews for a current project and I'm reminded why many generalist designers rarely talk to customers. Research interviews take a lot of work to organize and there are often obstacles, but the insights are always worth it!

Excited about our next @douxmeetup topic! Not so excited to see that @meetup event pages still do not get a preview image when shared on @threads. They have an og:image URL, but Meta's sharing debugger says the images are corrupted.

Looking forward to discussing craft at tonight's @douxmeetup. We have a good mix of in-person and remote attendees registered and a deck with questions to spur on the conversation. There's still time to join us:

Have you turned on Fediverse sharing yet?
If not, what are you waiting for?

I've noticed a recent uptick in accounts enabling it and a growing number of individuals asking others to do the same.

I wrote about why this is exciting to me (Lists!) and how to go about following your Threads follows on Mastodon.

https://jasongraphix.com/journal/following-threads-on-mastodon/

Felt inspired to change some things up this morning so I rearranged the shoffice. Before and after, the dog approves.

Office shed layout before with desk on the left and futon on the right, with dog on the futon in the center.Office shed layout after with the futon on the left and desk on the right. Dog is still in the center.

We *really* do need a Lists feature here.

My algo feed is great, but many posts (like this one) are so old that it's too late to join the conversation.

I jump over to Following often, but I can scroll 30 posts in and not make it past an hour's worth.

Lists were how I kept up with what I wanted to on Twitter and they're essential to how I currently use Mastodon. Threads needs lists!
