September 6, 2019 - Olifants wilderness camp, South Africa - Up before dawn to prepare for long hikes in Kruger National Park over the course of three days. On our last bush walk we came across this lone male elephant. He began charging. Our guides told us to move swiftly away. It was intense.

September 1, 2013 - The Million Mrs. Roper March at Southern Decadence. (This group would re-use those wigs the following year for a Richard Simmons “Sweatin' to the Oldies” theme.)

August 29, 2015 - I was failing this basil plant and made a sign to put in the lobby of the apartment building. It was rescued shortly thereafter. I hope it had a better life than I could offer at the time.

August 23, 2014 - My first big cycling event! I rode 51 miles on this Saturday for Bike MS. (I’d previously only ridding 30 miles in a stretch.) Having a relatively protected route around Lebanon Ohio and a whole slew of folks of different skill levels made it doable (and extremely rewarding).

August 22, 2008 - These Chinese Lanterns grew outside our house in Dayton. I thought they were amazing — such a bright pop of orange and unique shape. Bonus? They dry really well and last for years in a vase. Mom would transplant some & they still show up in her garden that my brother tends.

August 19, 2003 - McDonald’s PlayPlace, somewhere in Cincinnati… I could spend an entire day trying to track down the location but I’m sure it’s been replaced by a “box” McDonald’s. My only clues are other photos from the day in Pleasant Ridge and Hyde Park.

@martyday I wish I didn't, but I super dig Caffeine Free Coke Zero. Caffeine makes me jittery and I think this tastes better than Regular Coke. It's fizzy and pairs well with feeling beleaguered.

@odd I don't know the details of the deal, but keeping the chimney a requirement for historic funds makes sense. I do know they had to keep the original windows and upgrade them, which was a significant cost as new windows would have been much more efficient in every way.

@odd The factory used to make machines for tin can factories. I'm not sure why they left the chimney when redeveloped into loft apartments. The chimney was starting to lose a few bricks about 5 years ago and they took the time to stabilize it in lieu of removing it entirely. A bit more information here: American Can Company Building
