Gorgeous winter afternoon for a walk beside the river. Just before 5pm, 18°c and clear skies.

Looking along the Brisbane River. The lower half of the photo is the blue of the river. The curve of the river creates a thin band of land across the middle with the upper half a clear blue sky.

Productive afternoon reviewing the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) program to decide what I’ll see. I’ve added it all into a spreadsheet to plan out and add travel times. Also need to leave some gaps to catch up with friends as well. 🍿

@manton @lmika I recall he worked with the show runners to sketch out how he saw the series ending so the show stayed consistent with it but there were variations like you say, different deaths etc. I think we’ve broadly seen the conclusion but the book will offer greater depth and detail.

@manton I'd like GRRM to pick up the series again and actually finish the last book!

🐱 The cat is silently sitting beside her bowl glaring at me as I’ve been up for an hour and haven’t fed her. She will be even more displeased when I scoop her up shortly and put her in the carrier to go to the vet to get her teeth cleaned.

After today, I have 17 working days until I go on six weeks leave. Just have to make sure the screaming stays internal until then.

A black enamel badge in the shape of an animal head, pointy ears, big round eyes and the words “Screaming Internally” where the mouth would be. It’s pinned on a cream coloured jacket.

I don’t understand people who buy an apartment and then complain every quarter they don’t understand how the levies are calculated. How do they not look into it and make sure they know all the ongoing costs before making a major financial decision?

I have six weeks of work left until I have six weeks of leave. I can’t begin to describe how much I’m looking forward to this given my last large block of leave was Aug-Sept 2022.

Niece borrowed some money to help buy a car earlier this year. She’s discovering the bank of uncle peter is not as flexible with repayments as the bank of dad. Deferring the regular payment results in a lecture when it doesn’t resume as agreed. I call it character building, not sure if she agrees.

Someone in the comms team at my superannuation fund is probably swearing profusely right now. A generic email has gone out and it has the member number instead of the name (Dear 12345678).

After their recent outage due to Google cloud issues you’d think they’d be extra careful about this stuff.

@pratik In comparison, my university is using hybrid as a reason to introduce hot desks to free up space. Our floor is being renovated later this year to bring the department together in one location but we’ve heard there will only be enough desks for approx 80% of staff at any one time.

The large park near me has very popular and busy markets every Saturday morning with stalls set up around the ring road. I often see a guy with a metal detector sweeping the ground late on a Saturday afternoon after everyone has packed up. I wonder how much stuff he still finds.

@pratik I use it and I don't find it all that much extra effort to use. I basically copy and paste my letterbox review. If you're wondering about extra friction/additional effort there are probably four - (i) you need to source the cover art, (ii) you may need to resize the font for the review depending how much you write, (iii) it's an image so you need to add ALT text, which I have a template bit of wording kept in Apple notes for and then just paste the review into, and (iv) keeping up with reviews as it's additional effort and you can fall behind (like I have).
