@briandigital I edit PDFs more frequently than one might expect, combine files to create a PDF, fill in forms (I have other ways to do that, but it is one thing I use it for). Those are the main uses.

I’m a pro (ish) at Adobe Acrobat. If I were to try to get rid of Adobe and take advantage of Affinty’s offer, what PDF app would be as capable as Acrobat?

@patrickrhone I wish I had hope that will happen here. Alas… And I’m not usually a gloomy pessimist.

@jean My wife just returned from a conducting symposium in Washington, but she was also able to spend about five days with some of her family in Portland. They spent a great deal of time on the coast and, for whatever reason, she brought home what she calls “cool rocks.”

@pratik I assume/hope FIFA will have all of that under control. CONMEBOL seemingly couldn’t be bothered. What I wonder is how they’re going to solve the field size issue.

The Copa America 2024 tournament is really poorly planned and managed. Lacking a lot of technology a tournament of that level should have. By contrast, Euro 2024 has been spectacular, save from some inexperienced referee shenanigans.

@briandigital I’m not sure it’s Berhalter’s fault, per se, but if it isn’t, he’s just really unlucky as a manager. He can’t continue with USMNT.

My doctor is going to tell me later this morning that I have diabetes. It sucks, and it’s mostly my fault. Partly genetics, but mostly my fault. At least I staved it off for much longer than my dad did. And it isn’t so far advanced that it can’t essentially be reversed.

NextDNS works on my iPhone on the network at school. It does not work on my Android. The network sees it as a VPN and blocks traffic. Connecting to a VPN while accessing the network is grounds for immediate termination. I guess that justifies having separate devices for work and personal use.

I am convinced that, while Android has come a very long way in the last few years, the only people who can use it are retired folks or those who otherwise have no need for a calendar app. There is not a single decent calendar available for the platform.

For reasons, I have two mobile phones. Both are mine, but I use one exclusively for work (there’s a story behind this). It is due for an upgrade and I have chosen an Android. It has been many years since I’ve used an Android device, so I’m really curious how the OS has progressed.

I’ve been trying to grow my appreciation for bourbon. I recently had a bourbon and ginger drink that was amazing. A couple of nights ago I had a smoked Old Fashioned. It was fine, nothing special. Anybody have recommendations for a good bourbon I should try? I have Woodford Reserve.

Our last child will graduate from high school tomorrow. We will have launched an intelligent, opinionated, capable, compassionate human who makes the world a better place by being in it. Tonight, she’s cuddled up next to her momma. It was tough the whole way, but I think we succeeded as parents.

A screech of Sopranos
A croak of Altos
A salvation of Tenors
A rumble of Basses

As heavily invested as I am in the Apple ecosystem, I have never been able to commit to HomeKit accessories because they’re so fickle. Z-Wave devices, on the other hand, have been rock solid for pushing 8 years since we moved in. I just had to replace my first Z-Wave light switch.

Avatar

@philbowell Ah. Ok, then you might not be in luck, unless you're willing to use two apps. NotePlan can read and edit the same files as Obsidian. You can just point both apps to the same folder. But there are no plugins that do that for NotePlan that I am aware of. So got would import intro Obsidian and read via NotePlan.

Avatar

@BestofTimes I think they made an architectural change. In Settings, you have declared a default search engine. In the Kagi for Safari settings, you now need to tell the Kagi extension which search to redirect to Kagi. Select from the dropdown the same search engine you set in Settings.

And you didn’t hear me, but I was screaming in agreement with your ~~rant~~ strong position on podcast networks that raise membership prices because ad revenue is drying up but can somehow find thousands of dollars to buy Vision Pro headsets that only a fraction of their listeners will be buying for at least four or five years.

@UndamnedOne I do. It’s fine. Nothing too special other than it’s encrypted on both ends with zero access encryption on Proton’s side. Fastmail is encrypted at their end, but they have the keys, so you just have to trust that they won’t access your email. Proton comes with other advantages, though: VPN, fledgling private storage, password management, etc.

@maique Similar feelings here, though I no longer have little ones. It’s big performance season and today was the first day in a week I’ve seen my wife for more than 20 minutes. And she, too, has a big trip next week. I’m usually just fine on my own, but I’ve missed my best friend recently. (That seems uncharacteristically sappy, but it’s true.)
