I'm a technologist, I know my way around the keys of a piano, and I love Mother Nature. Was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and I'm pretty sure my soul is bound there to stay. I'm also very much into the paranormal, and I think my mother's side has some Fae blood in there way back when.

@aaronpk I completely forgot about this until...now? Either way, now I can track my location on my web site correctly for posts that don't originate from Foursquare! (In the last iteration of my site, it kept showing my location in odd places; most of them appeared to be coming from Asian countries, of all things.) That was via Wordpress, which I will be going back to.

@jamesg.blog Well, I love this! You made me think about all the things I'm going to do once I get Wordpress set back up (CA. next month.) love the background audio idea, seeing that as a blind person, I love audio! I want to get an audio capture from Plymouth, NH. Family's had a residence up there for the past...23 years, now? (need to get some photos from there, too, now that I think about it!)

@khurtwilliams That's exactly what I'm saying. It's no problem at all. I would love to see it, too. I think I misread the post originally and thought that you were referring to a general implementation, not to MB specifically. that was my bad. I will write a longer post regarding my thoughts on both MB and others and where we are on this sort of thing, followed by where we should be.

@khurtwilliams I like Jetpack Reader, though whenever you click subscribe, it will automatically send those posts to your email, hence why I prefer setting up my own reader such as Aperture. It's more of a challenge, but I'm more technically adventurous, something sorely lacking in today's day and age.

@khurtwilliams Even algorithms can be used correctly, but that's the problem...no company nowadays does.

@manton Ah. So if a book doesn't show up in search, where is the best place to add it? OpenLibrary, or the link for MB community people to use?

Avatar

Katherine M. Moss
@cambridgeport90

@manton Maybe it's time people base their software off of the spec, instead of off of a singular API? I'm serious. It seems that most AP implements aren't considered by their developers to be complete unless they are compatible with Mastodon, which seems to require more work.

@jarrod @manton I can see this sort of thing for sites for things such as medical,financial,and what not; neither of those would be preferred on search engines, I know I don't want my financial or medical information available for people without proper authorization to look up and do gods-know-what with, but when it comes to information that you publish yourself on your personal site, without search engines or directories to catalogue these sites...you're just writing into thin air and potentially no one will ever learn what you have to share. Considering you choose what you publish on your site, I follow the guideline of not publishing things that I wouldn't want others to see.

@cambridgeport90

@manton That way I can have the best of both worlds with WP; follow all my peeps over here, while still havingg posts sent.

@cambridgeport90

@manton Yeah. Whoops. I was on my phone when I posted that, so, I probably didn't give as many details as I should have; basically, whenever I use micro.blog as my feed reader's endpoint, say, in aperture, I have several sources in Aperture that I cannot see when I load any client; have tried Monocle and Together, so far; only things that show up is the MB timeline, almost as if the client is acting as a MB client specifically. Basically the other folders and sources I have Aperture polling are hidden. So basically MB hides all channels except for those coming from itself. Unless I'm missing something...

@jean nature places are the best. Particular, when you didn’t know they existed. I have one right near me, as well about it, and less somebody pointed out to me.

Avatar

@cambridgeport90

@manton not at all. There’s actually quite a few reasons. An extra. One of the main reasons, is due to the limitations that I seem to find with feed readers. I feel like with a solution like that, I have more control than I do with a hosted solution like this. Whenever I look at all the things in my feed reader, all I can see is the timeline from here. None of the feeds that I’ve added to aperture separately.

@cambridgeport90

@manton that would be interesting; theoretically, though, depending on what the other's person's site is running on, you could still do the Pushover thing. that's one of the reasons why I want to switch back to wordpress for most things, actually. Haven't decided whether to keep the hosted MB for podcasts or not.

Avatar

Katherine M. Moss
@cambridgeport90

@manton the only downside to that is the fact that some folks such as myself feel good when a post is, say favorited, and so on. It would be nice to have configureable notifications so that you could see whether somebody rposted your post as a fav on their own web site. this would be user configurable, off by default, and would theoretically require something like Pushover or similar to work.

@jean One thing about Micro.blog? As much as I love how versatile it is, it tends to ignore other channels subscribed to in RSS readers. One of the potential limitations, unless I'm just missing the memo somewhere? I've got a pile of subscriptions sorted into channels in Aperture, but when I log into either Monocle or Together, I can't see them, only the posts coming from MB.
